Having a Graphic Design background, you'd think it would have been somewhat simple for me to come up with a logo, right? Wrong. I had (and still have) so many ideas of how I wanted it to look, what kind of elements I wanted to include in it, what kind of typography I wanted to use, etc. It got to a point where I was so overwhelmed with the ideas swarming around in my head that I decided to keep it simple. I went back to my love for typography and decided to make a solid mark with my brand name: ShaleneLorraine.
I initially thought I wanted a handmade/handwritten feel to my logo after sketching out ideas. I even wanted to incorporate a watercolor poppy that I made because it's my mom's favorite flower and I thought it'd be a beautiful touch. Still thinking of how I can bring that into the mix. Nevertheless, being that my work is hand made, it seemed to make the most sense to have that handmade type of logo to represent my products. Quickly realizing that bringing my sketches into Adobe Illustrator made that handwritten feel disappear, I figured I'd stick to a clean, type-based logo that would work well in several different mediums.
Eventually I wanted to make my logo into a stamp after seeing Trisha Thompson Adams' blog post on her logo process. (From which I took inspiration since her work is absolutely beautiful) Per her suggestion, I used a wood stamp from Simon's Stamps and am extremely happy with the outcome! I received it much sooner than expected and got to work right away.
The last time I visited New York I went to Paper Presentation to pick up some card stock for business cards and shipping tags. This was one of my favorite places to go while I was in school there. It is the mecca for all of your paper needs. They have hundreds of other trinkets and craft supplies as well. I found the paper I needed, cut it up into 2"x3" pieces, and voilà! Business cards. Still working on how I'm going to get my information on the backs of them. I might use pen and ink to do that, just to get my fix for that hand made feel I've been after this whole time.
